Canvas LMS - modern, open-source LMS
-
I'd love this!
I recently participated on this Towards Cooperative Commonwealth: Transition in a Perilous Century course on the hosted version and I know the organisers would love to be able to host it themselves next time
-
Is there still an appetite for this? I can give it a shot in my spare time. Iām very much into teaching and learning tools being more available so more options would be good IMO.

Definitely!

That'd be awesome, thanks!

Yeah, really we need Moodle ( thanks @atrilahiji!), Canvas LMS and then eventually the Open edX platform too! (although I get the impression that is quite a complex beast)
They are seemingly the 3 most mature and actively developed learning platforms out there:

(although the others there look interesting too! )

Yes please.

@atrilahiji You bet!
Moodle has a lot of features, but canvas is easier for students and teachers to navigate and use. -
@atrilahiji
Would be great
-
@jimcavoli @atrilahiji it'd be really great if you could work together to get this packaged for Cloudron!
I was just reading this:
https://forum.meet.coop/t/shared-learning-spaces/550
And it seems lots of people think Canvas LMS is quite a bit easier/ simpler to use than Moodle.
-
Ah as with most thing I totally forgot to look into this one...
-
@atrilahiji It would be great to see this if you have time.
-
@atrilahiji Yes definitely an interest. It would be good to have something more modern than Moodle, which is a pig with a bit of lipstick (IMHO).

@atridad did you ever remember to look into this?
Found myself having a need for it again today.
-
@jdaviescoates not even close sadly. I am really hoping someone else would pick it up
-
@atridad fair enough.

Moodle has massive developer support, is widely used around the world and already supported on Cloudron.
I haven't looked too much into Canvas LMS, but I would say the strongest alternative to Moodle would be Sakai:
http://source.sakaiproject.org/release/21.1/
https://www.sakailms.org/Sakai has been under development for many years now, though not so long as Moodle. It has some big backers in the world of Education, too.
There is also a LMS (Learning Management System) integrated as a module into Odoo (or Flectra, a fork of Odoo with a Freedom focus.) Odoo and Flectra have a presence on Cloudron, I think.
-
@loudlemur I think Canvas LMS is likely more widely used than Sakai given it has even more active development and more stars on github, see e.g.
https://selfhosted.libhunt.com/categories/1695-learning-and-courses
But Sakai seems cool too - we should add an App Wishlist post for it!

@jdaviescoates Thanks! that selfhostedlibhunt.com is useful!
