Which do you think is the strongest application on Cloudron to deliver e-commerce capability, such as an online store?

Odoo, which is brilliant in this regard, has been requested but at the moment isn't gathering momentum here.

Axelor has been requested, and looks good but has anybody tried it?

ERPnext is another candidate which has been requested:

There are quite a few options at LibSelfHosted:

Are any of these particularly good or next-generation tech?

    @LoudLemur I asked a similar question previously.

Sadly this is rather a gap on Cloudron.

The most complete workable solution was actually WordPress (developer instance) with WooCommerce or similar plugin.

But for the particular project I was doing, I didn't need full cart functionality.
So I just went with a Ghost deployment (but could have been Grav or another website builder) and added purchase buttons which have a link to a Stripe payment page.
I avoid Paypal (for anti-big-tech reasons and because they nearly did me over), and Stripe does everything I need.

It's not a complete solution (no cart functions) but it works, and that's all I need for now.

Would like to see a good ecommerce solution here on Cloudron, but it's basically WP + WooCommerce for now.

I would say WP + WC (WooCommerce) is the best open-source solution nowadays. And it runs pretty smooth.

What are our options here other than odoo? Many of our customers already just use WooCommerce on WP Developer app.

@LoudLemur Nothing against odoo but odoo on Cloudron is a bit impractical for us.

My experience with odoo is that it is impossible to upgrade without significant investment and thus people don't upgrade. Apparently, the outdated instances are "stable" and there is no reason to upgrade. This is fine but doesn't fit in Cloudron's development model. The model of never upgrading and upgrading after many years fits enterprises who have significant time/money/resources.

Already, some of our users built a custom odoo package (I think odoo 12) and it doesn't work with postgres on 7.4 anymore. So, they are sticking with Cloudron 7.3. Cloudron is not an enterprise product where we will release and maintain versions of 7.3 now for the next 5 years.

So, in summary, I am not sure, how we can ever support odoo...

Hey, @girish. Thanks for the explanation. I can understand now and can accept that. Whilst you are here, how does the Cloudron team feel about all these AI applications being suggested?

@LoudLemur I don't see why not. But generally, we have to wait a bit to see how many of those apps remain to be well-developed/maintained. Just to set some expectations, I don't think we will be rolling out AI apps in coming 1-2 months.

@LoudLemur I would say Wordpress has come a long way in the last 2 years and you can likely do more with Woocommerce than any other FOSS platform.

Try the kadencewp.com theme and Woocommerce, and stick to well reviewed Gutenburg block add-ons, that are much lighter and more standardised than the old classic free-for-all ways of making frontend add-ons.

Use the Asset Cleanup plugin for overall speed efficiency.

DM me for Qs on other useful add-ons for your use-case, and happy to share my experience.

Odoo is a very capable platform, and nice in many ways, but if you were building a business that many livelihoods depended on, with Odoo, I think you'd want their SaaS version for support and independence of needing developer maintenance, to focus on the business sales, marketing and operations needs.

If you want the freedoms of FOSS, I don't think Wordpress & Woocommerce can be beaten for accessibility to customise and develop.

@marcusquinn we have disabled it, as we got too many direct messages for support and it's the wrong tool as a support channel. So better to have it disabled than giving the wrong impression that we are reachable there. Sadly we can't disable it for our staff accounts only.

@nebulon would be useful to make an announcement where the preferred place for community DMs are, even if not for staff/support.

Fill your profile with a list or a LinkTr.ee that has them all.
