Solved NocoDB - Open Source Airtable Alternative
-
NocoDB is an open source #NoCode platform that turns any database into a smart spreadsheet.
-
@martinkbs Oh wow, good find - that does look very professional!
-
@martinkbs Yeah! Amazing stuff, wow that should certainly be very useful, you can even EDIT data in DBs very cool.

This looks great!

And there even is a docker version installation. That's one app that should be considered seriously.

Yes please.

Yes pleaase!

@martinkbs : NocoDb is good (have it installed elsewhere) but Seatable (https://forum.cloudron.io/topic/2517/seatable-speadsheet-meets-database?_=1634306780797) is much nicer (also installed elsewhere). Seatable should be the priority IMHO.

However, nocoDB is Open Source while Seatable is NOT. While Seatable looks great, I'd vote for priority on FOSS apps before paid apps on Cloudron imho.
-
@micmc : that's a very good point, thank you, I revise my opinion !
-
@micmc @timconsidine
I would vote for NocodDB too and prefer OSS projects to contribute
NocoDB seems to be a promising project and it would be great to have it in Cloudron ! -

-
@bruno I have nocodb running on caprover on another vps.
It's nice. Not sure if better than Baserow or Seatable, but% agree on OSS
-
there you go : https://github.com/adeelahmad/nocodb
my first share with community. -
@adeelahmad brilliant ! well done and thank you
-
@timconsidine Do you know how NocoDB and SeaTable compare with Baserow which is also Open Source AFAIK?
-
@avatar1024 I haven't done a full comparison
I have to say I prefer SeaTable because of the richer interface and setting up different views.
And NocoDB is just plain annoying on its splash screen after the first time you have seen it .... but it's only a splash screen, so I had better get over it.
Other than that, I haven't found a lot of difference between them, but TBH that's probably because I focussed more on SeaTable so far. But OSS is important so I will likely focus on Baserow or Nocodb more next.
I think I would lean a little towards Baserow, but can't put my finger on why. Maybe it is NocoDB annoying eye-candy animations (we're not all children who go 'ooo' when they see glitter on the screen). Or the fact I have just found it has lost my initial user login and so the the tables I setup. Grrr. But can't blame them for that (maybe I did something wrong setting it up).
But Noco is still only 0.8 so maybe some caution required.
-
@adeelahmad oh this is great. What is the status of the package? Does the app itself work well?
-
@timconsidine I had to try the app myself to understand what you meant by those animations. Agreed those animations are a bit off putting! Also, if you leave the app tab open for a while, it shows a matrix animation ! There is a checkbox to disable it though - https://github.com/nocodb/nocodb/issues/171 .
Seems somewhere between a toy and a serious app.
-
@girish thanks for the tip about turning it off, didn't find that.
-
@girish Let me update you guys tomorrow. One minor change and done. A question tho why cant i create repo on git.cloudron.io? anyway to put it there ?

You probably just don't have permission to do so yet. I assume @girish will sort you out
-
@jdaviescoates Thanks
@girish i do not want to use my github for many reason, it would be great if you can provide permissions, i have about 5-10 apps that i can publish including outline, jira, slack nebula vpn, opencats and many others .
-
@adeelahmad you should have access now to create repos.
-
-
@jdaviescoates Thanks, let me put as much as i can over this weekend. will post links here. Also not sure if its production grade or not so please feel free to contribute or fork as you like.

Would love to be able to, but don't have the skills.
I note @klawitterb also has a an Outline package too:
https://forum.cloudron.io/post/36360
Hopefully between you both and @staff and @appdev peeps will be able to get something stable sorted!
(although @girish or @nebulon should probably move these posts about Outline into the Outline thread as we've gone somewhat off topic
)

+1 to have NocoDB to Cloudron!
I just spoke to the founder, Naveen about the possibility to bring over NocoDB to Cloudron, and he's happy to do so.
I'll send him the link to this topic, so he can come and introduce himself & the app here.
Hope the Cloudron team @nebulon @girish can get in touch with him as well to make this possible
Really excited! -
@aizat happy to bump across you.
Hey Cloudron community,
This is Naveen - Founder of NocoDB.
NocoDB is a free & open source no-code database. (its an alternative to airtable but on your own new/existing databases). We instantly provide a collaborative spreadsheet and APIs on databases. Currently support turning postgres, mysql, SQL server, sqlite and mariadb databases.
We launched it 7 months ago and have had ~5.5 Million docker downloads. Would love to make NocoDB part of Cloudron so that the community can benefit for a seamless experience.
-
@o1lab welcome and I'm sure NocoDB would be a good addition to the Cloudron portfolio
-
-
@o1lab hi naveen, welcome here! I am happy to get it published. It's actually pretty much packaged and one thing holding us back was that after installation, it shows a splash screen and this can be a confusing UX for the user. Is there a way to disable this and also the matrix screensaver automatically say at install time (in the packaging script) ? It's fine if we have to edit some database variables directly or set some environment variables.
-
@girish Wow this is good news.
Thank you for the hard work, really appreciate it sincerely.
-
Hi @girish, We just published a new version in which you can add the
NC_MIN
environment variable to disable both splash screen and screensaver. The value ofNC_MIN
can be anything other than an empty string. Hope it will help. -
@pranavxc thanks for the quick fix! I will look into getting the app published.
-
@girish : Thank you so much. Look forward to it.
-
@girish : Many of our users want to run noco on cloudron. Please let us know when its published. Excited to be part of the ecosystem.
-
@o1lab Oh, I was waiting for a new release because 0.84.6 does not include it. Do you think using the master branch is stable?
-
@girish : hey, it got available in 0.84.6.
-
+1 🦾 I would like to set it up with Cloudron
-
@girish Any news on this? I am super excited for this.
Sincere thanks for the amazing work! -
@aizat sorry, we will need more time
we have to attend to update of some of the existing apps, before we can get to this. Hopefully, next week, I am already looking into this on the side. Will atleast try to get an unstable version soonish.
-
@girish : gently following up on this - possible to give it a push this week.
-
Any idea what the ~ default RAM requirement will be?
-
@o1lab started looking into this now
It took a while but we had our own release issues to get sorted out.
-
OK, I have pushed an unstable version now. Package source is at https://git.cloudron.io/cloudron/nocodb-app . Still fixing up various things and writing tests.
(cc @adeelahmad @Aizat @o1lab @pranavxc )

I will mark this as solved. I have create a forum section for further discussions - https://forum.cloudron.io/category/140/nocodb
