Will the New Docker Changes Effect Cloudron At All?
-
Hey Team,
So, I'm sure you are already aware of it, but I thought I'd ask about it - recently, docker has recently decided to start charging for Organization accounts.
Will that affect you guys at all?
As far as I know, all Cloudron images are ultimately based off of ubuntu:jammy... so I don't think there will be any image dependency issues... but I just wanted to check and see what you guys thought about it.
Hope you are having an awesome day.

@michaelpope could you provide a source about these price changes?
Since docker is just a technology which has no charges as is. -
Docker is sunsetting Free Team organizations
Free Team organizations are a legacy subscription tier that no longer exists. This tier included many of the same features, rates, and functionality as a paid Docker Team subscription.
After reviewing the list of accounts that are members of legacy Free Team organizations, we’ve identified yours as potentially being one of them.
If you own a legacy Free Team organization, access to paid features — including private repositories — will be suspended on April 14, 2023 (11:59 pm UTC). Upgrade your subscription before April 14, 2023 to continue accessing your organization.
If you don’t upgrade to a paid subscription, Docker will retain your organization data for 30 days, after which it will be subject to deletion. During that time, you will maintain access to any images in your public repositories, though rate limitations will apply. At any point during the 30-day period, you can restore access to your organization account if you upgrade to a paid subscription. Visit our FAQ for more information.

@BrutalBirdie Here is a good read: https://blog.alexellis.io/docker-is-deleting-open-source-images/

I got this by e-mail yesterday.
-
@BrutalBirdie Sure!
Two caveats though:
-
This is for Docker Hub, and particularly, for 'Organization Accounts'. I'm not sure how much Cloudron relies on this at all as I know you guys run your own proxy on things. I do see a cloudron account on Docker Hub though, so I'm not quite sure on how much this is used, or if it is an 'Organization Account'.

These aren't primary sources, it's more of people worried about it. I don't know if Docker the company themselves has posted anything about it to the public yet (it sounds more like they sent emails out to organization accounts or something like that)

Also, we don't rely on any other open source docker images. So, we should be fine even if it all disappears (only ubuntu image is needed which is a 'core' image and part of the docker library)
