I agree. I also have tested it on another VPS and am in the progress of figuring out the best way to self-host this at home for now.

Thanks @necrevistonnezr for sharing the Intel N100 suggestion here and pointing out the following:

Sounds nice - but you're in price regions (after adding casing, SSD, etc.) where it could make sense to look at Intel N100 mini PCs (or used thin clients), which offer a lot more possibilities...

... and in your AVX: List of CPUs incomplete post.

And for completeness, you also said in Woohoo, I finally cancelled my Dropbox subscription!:

Nextcloud runs! on my new homeserver (Intel N100 / 16 GB)

NextCloud is what I am planning on bringing into my home (from the cloud). I just got a 12 GB DDR5 RAM, 512 GB m.2 SATA SSD N100 mini PC for this purpose. Dual NIC, one being 2.5 Gbps. Powered by USB-C PowerDelivery is a bonus.

I came here to start a topic on the N100, and the Alder Lake N-series in general, being a better alternative than Raspberry PIs and other ARM options for many here.
No new is topic needed. This Raspberry Pi one seems just right.

This Intel Ark table does not include a column for TDP, but that can be seen by clicking.
The best table I have found overall is on Wikipedia.

Several of these processors are very highly ranked in Power Performance (CPU Mark / Max TDP) category on the PassMark site.
    https://www.cpubenchmark.net/power_performance.html

The N300 beats the N100 by having higher performance score, 8 cores and better 'cost performance per Watt', BUT... not worth considering now because:

    • Few PCs, boards out yet
    • Being branded with the Core-i3, meaning they expect a premium
    • Price I have seen for it is $309 (versus $128 for N100)

If you live in a place where electricity prices are not a big deal or it is not for 24/7 usage, then the N97 or N95 cost less, but also seem to offer great value.

For even less money, as the OP said, used thin clients are worth looking at and are getting mentioned by Linux podcasts recently, for example:
    https://linuxafterdark.net/linux-after-dark-episode-58/

When the Raspberry Pi 5 was announced, we all said that most people would probably be better off repurposing an x86 thin client so we bought some dirt cheap new in box Dell Wyse 5070 machines to see if we were right. Spoiler: we were.

And searching for N100 versus Raspberry Pi 4 (or 5) you find a lot more talk.

  • Headscale Wireguard VPN Server

I noticed that Headscale is in the YunoHost Application Catalog:
    https://apps.yunohost.org/app/headscale

I am not sure how many people have installed it. A YunoHost forum search for Headscale doesn't turn up much.

The Headscale.net website lists 3 community written/maintained web UIs.
    https://headscale.net/web-ui/
I haven't looked at any of them, but it seems like this would be needed by many.

I ran a Wireguard server for a few years, but took it down 2 years ago after getting going with Cloudron as I expected with all the upvotes we would see something Wireguard-related any day now...

@humptydumpty said in Dealing with possible bots in the forums:

Sorry. I am not sure what 18F is or the point you are trying to make here:

If you’re old enough and lucky enough to have been around when everyone you chatted with online was 18F, then you know you need to take things with a grain of salt.

Chat? I check the Support category to be aware of any issues that others are reporting that I might also experience. Like the two I referenced:

    • Database Access & Backups?
    • can't login via ssh after fresh 7.5 install

I try to understand the isssue and scroll down quickly to see the solution or status.

This thread ended up doing exactly what you were trying to prevent, waste staff time. Let the staff handle things as they see fit. They’ve been doing an awesome job so far.

I posted my question here in the Off-topic category. I got an affimative answer.

    And I got this:

No need to overthink things or butt in. Been there, done that. I learned to let things be. Not trying to attack you. Just my 2c.

You lost me again here. Sorry.

Anyway, I value everyone's time: staff, mine and anyone coming along in the future. Do you read through most support topics?
Question for anyone: Is there a reason not to just delete the chat with and about bots to reduce the noise and help people understand issues or find solutions quicker? In the forums I manage I delete anything totally off-topic. It seems to be appreciated.

    @girish said in What's coming in 7.5:

So, we will make it available as unstable on Monday.

Great. I think I was one of these:

@nebulon said in Suggestion for prereleases:

I think we made a mistake with 7.5 where it was pushed out for some Cloudrons unintentionally for auto-updates for a brief moment

I didn't notice anything break. And I see it led to a nice discussion about prelease testing and even naming conventions.

@d19dotca said in Suggestion for prereleases:

Just to clarify from my perspective a couple of things and add my two cents...

Any experienced users here or someone just reading that thread or this one here is prepared, but others might benefit from clarifications.
It took me several months to figure things out.

  • Grist | The Evolution of Spreadsheets
    K kymj8

This week I noticed this new feature in Outline which has been here in the App Wishist category:

    • Added support self hosted Grist

I have been running Outline for 3 months (on a service similar to, but not as refined as Cloudron). I did do a quick test of embedding a Grist table -- not selfhosted -- into an Outline wiki post.

I am not capable of testing the selfhosted version not sure if either of these apps is the way I want to go long term. (If it is not on Cloudron, under a domain I have, getting safely backed up in a way I can recover or extract my data, it might as well not exist.)

I see above where @Aizat said in Grist | The Evolution of Spreadsheets:

Also REST API support makes it easy to integrates with other apps.

This part does sound promising. My goal for years has been to embed some simple table data with sorting/filtering in a blog post, web page, wiki/PKM tool, etc., and update that data elsewhere.

Baserow and NocoDB are already here on Cloudron. This is an exciting category.
As seen with the OIDC supported apps here, integration can bring a lot of value.

  • What is your most common misspelling of CLourdon?
    K kymj8

I think I have only mispelled it once: cloduron

But I am reminded of this mistake often as objectstorage-test-for-cloduron is the name of the S3 bucket I have been using for for over a year.

It also reminds me that Cloudron things often just work from the get go.
I will use something shorter and without mistakes when I move to a different provider.

The name is excellent. And congratulations on having the .com.

  • Dealing with possible bots in the forums
    K kymj8

I appreciate the product, the support team and those kindly sharing high quality information here in the forums. Thank you all!
I have some comments/questions regarding how an average reader like me might be able to help dealing with suspected bots.

    Background

Recently I noticed two mentions of bots:

    Suspected bot #1

@girish said in Database Access & Backups?:

    @sarah-white are you a bot?

This one seemed obviously off. Maybe not a bot per say, but someone playing ChatGPT.
@micmc pointed this out in Database Access & Backups?:

Sounds much like replies produced by asking ChatGPT to me!

The user and posts have been removed. Good. But the time spent by staff and readers will never come back. And anyone hitting that thread will see 3 posts about the bot.

    Suspected bot #2

@girish said in can't login via ssh after fresh 7.5 install:

valid point but I think [this user] is a bot

This didn't appear to me to be a bot, but I can see the concern with new users replying to an old thread.
Again we see the staff lost some valuable time and future readers will see the remnants of this. There is definitely a cost to all of us.

    Question

Is there anything that we can do to help out here?
(Joining the conversation about whether a reply is from a bot will leave clutter in that thread for future users.)

Would flagging a suspected user or post help? I have never done that.

Anything else we can do to keep this great?

  • SeaTable - Speadsheet meets database

I notice that SeaTable is now available in the Linode Marketplace.

Guides - Deploy SeaTable through the Linode Marketplace
Published Monday, June 26, 2023, by Linode
    https://www.linode.com/docs/products/tools/marketplace/guides/seatable/

I discovered SeaTable 3+ years ago and used their hosted version extensively for some things. It did the job. For a few years I paid for the Plus version (7€) to get the advanced sharing permissions.

I never felt like I was in control of my data and wanted to have this on domain I own, so later discovered NocoDB and Baserow and saw those come onto Cloudron. Now I seem to have things spread out over all 3, but would like to focus on one; Ideally one that I can figure out how to embed in other documents.

I won't be going the Linode route. Cloudron does so much more...
Not sure if this means anything for Cloudron. Has @Philipp-Braun stopped by recently?

    I found an update here.

    @girish said in What's coming in 7.5:

Unfortunately, the wireguard/openvpn integration has to be done in 7.6 . It's a pretty big feature and it's unlikely to be done in 7.5 timeframe.

But it was also listed in 7.3 announcement 14 months ago.

    @girish said in What's coming in 7.3:

    OpenVPN/Wireguard integration

And this original request here dates back to 2019.
Consider the number upvotes it would be nice to see some better communication on this; Maybe in this thread.

  • Version & update questions
    K kymj8

First, thanks for offering this app! I have used it off and on locally and am thinking of putting a few things on a Cloudron.

I noticed that the CR App Store shows this at the top:

    Version: 1.22.0
    Required minimum memory: 256MB
    Last updated 2 Jan 2023

But under Recent Changes it says 1.23 and links to the v1.23.0 changelog on GitHub and clicking install shows:

    This app packages Syncthing 1.23.0

I assume someone forgot to update the version at the top.
But also I notice that the latest version on GitHub is actually v1.23.1 that came out 2 weeks ago.

I am wondering how these point releases are handled. Should we request here if we think there is a needed fix?
I assume you all focus on security releases, which is good. Just checking. Thanks.

    Nice find.

    Agreed. Hackernews thread from today.
    https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34127804
    Usual mentions of:
...how does this compare to other Airtable alternatives like Nocodb, Baserow, Seatable, etc

    Will make a great addition.

Maybe. Some interesting comments on HN. Top one:
I see some serious red flags on their homepage:

    In my opinion:

    • Worth testing
    • This forum/topic is the source for for reliable information.
      Thanks to all here.

My own experience with similar apps. Still using SeaTable for some things. Stopped paying them. Don't trust long term. Trying NocoDB & Baseow here.
