We figured this one out and IPv6 support will be complete in 7.1. It will support export ports and the email server from the get-go! But as mentioned in previous comment, please hold on before updating if your Cloudron instance is critical.

AMAZING WORK! From our exceptional professional and cutting edge team of developers at Cloudron, should it be said once in a while.

Thanks for your fantastic work @girish @nebulon guys you are simply the bests.

  • PDF to Text/RTF fails
    micmcM micmc

Okay, on a positive note this app saved much time today and it worked perfectly well! 🙂

Had to fax a 5 pages doc through a virtual fax app I use (since we have no more phone landline for years). The 5 pages were scanned in 5 different jpg images but the virtual fax needed one single file, jpg or pdf, with the 5 pages inside.

Went to my Stirling PDF install; YES it can be done. I chose "Images to PDF" module, added the files and created a perfect PDF with the 5 pages in it, no error, ready to send through virtual fax. Stunning!

@martinkbs : NocoDb is good (have it installed elsewhere) but Seatable (https://forum.cloudron.io/topic/2517/seatable-speadsheet-meets-database?_=1634306780797) is much nicer (also installed elsewhere). Seatable should be the priority IMHO.

However, nocoDB is Open Source while Seatable is NOT. While Seatable looks great, I'd vote for priority on FOSS apps before paid apps on Cloudron imho.

  • More on Whitelabelling Cloudron for providing managed Cloudron instances
    micmcM micmc

As promised here here are more findings and suggestions that I propose for whitelabeling cloudron

I'm also including here the suggestions also brought up by @nothing that were also appreciated by @girish and fit well with some other suggestions I'd also proposed in some other threads (see references below)

Branding is too limited and the following are a few things I have noticed:

    • Page Titles still contain Cloudron e.g. User account creation
    • Emails sent to user with "Cloudron" in the subject, "powered by Cloudron" in footer
    • In user's dashboard, hovering over fa-user icon user is prompted to "Login with Cloudron credentials"
    • "Cloudron account" in a user's profile under App Passwords
    • DKIM cloudron._domainkey prefix should be changed, not only for branding but other reasons (obscurity). Why needlessly announce an organization is using Cloudron?

Branding should extend to the above. and anything I have yet to see, especially in an Enterprise setting. It should reflect the name of the organization. Ultimately, the user is creating an account with the organization, and not with Cloudron.

Also, refer to features I proposed in a previous great discussion about Hiding superadmin to deliver 'managed' cloudron to clients.

So here's what I add, that I also came out for whitelabeling implementation of cloudron.

FOR THE ADMIN user (the not superadmin or superuser)

In SUPPORT should not have to 'verify' their email address with cloudron.io, then their should be implemented a field on a 'white label form' to fill, which will add the white label registrar's contact information or a mean to reach it instead of cloudron.io

In SUPPORT one should not see "You can also write directly to support@cloudron.io." again that could be either hidden or use a contact form to which WL registrar would add on the 'white label form to fill'

In SUPPORT ticket form should be sent to owner/superadmin of the white labeled CR instance - can be set or not through superadmin

In SUPPORT "remote support" feature should not be seen by admin but superadmin only, for WL version, because WL registrar would take care of the support of its clients. So, owner/superadmin would be the only one to use that to allow cloudron.io access to the server, if needed.

In SUPPORT superadmin should also be able to customise links to KB, Tutorial, and Forum, very likely through the 'white label form' to fill and submit to customize the cloudron instance as WL. So, again WL registrar can handle its own KB, its own Tutorials, and its own users' forum.

In EVENT LOG one should be able not see the superuser activities, if not superuser oneself (I guess it appears, I'm not sure)

In NETWORK at the moment logged in as admin I cannot see the Firewall function. Alright, while I can imagine why admin user cannot block IP addresses (reasons?), for WL version I would not see a problem to leave this feature at admin level, as well as superuser of course.

In USER DIRECTORY admin should not be able to see the superadmin role, in role's dropdown choices, when adding a new user.

In APPS admin should not be able to see superadmin in Access Control users' dropdown choices

Creating a WHITELABEL instance should be as easy as using a special code when one registers a new license from within one's cloudron.io account's UI. And that instance should then be added to the WL registrar (cloudron WL provider using its WL code) pool of WL instances.

Now, for the all the documentation links all over inside the box, in oder to keep the WL offer full and constant, I believe the easiest solution that would also be fine for all users of the cloudron box, WL or not, is to put all the docs on a new domain name dedicated just for that does not refer nor link back to the developer's website. The way it is done for now is not useful and confusing for any end users already.

Several cloudron owner use their instance to serve clients of their own already, so anytime an end user stumbles on a meaning to reach cloudron.io in any way, that is where the confusion starts occuring, because cloudron.io might not be their service provider in many cases. Moreover, that is also a protection for the client finder that its end user will not eventually bypass the original provider by going straight cr.io even if it's only inadvertently. Or even to keep competitors away from the 'secret software' they use as a provider loll 😉

There's no need to hide or replace the name of the box, cloudron, for the domain. As long as it's not directly linking users back to the develpers' website. That should be very easy and quick to implement using search and replace technique in the source code to change all the documentation links at once. Domain name should not be very hard to find or decide on, I'm sure something like cloudrondocs.something should be very easy to find.

And, also to make it more specific and easier to distinguish I'd suggest that maybe the term 'SUPERUSER' should be replaced to use OWNERADMIN instead.

  • Socioboard, open source social media management
    micmcM micmc

Yes, that seems to be a very great find and I even wonder why this hasn't catch up more than that.
I mean, every business needs to use social media to a minimum for some exposure to your products and services, a place for your tribe and crowds gathering, creating powerful trust in potential client knowing there's a 'public' place where they can reach you in case of need.

Frankly, it's the first time I see a FOSS in this 'department', meaning social media management software and app. Let alone with such advanced development (as it seems from the outside) with many features found only in some of the most expensive (monthly / yearly fee) SaaS in SMM market online.

Plus, with social media marketing, AND with integrated CRM, AND with content studio, content discovery and automated content posts scheduling and much more...

I mean, we'd all a bargain as a powerful digital marketing tool here, but also and new extremely attention drawing addition to the Cloudron offer that will make it even more irresistible and a pure "must-have".

I put a MEGA vote on that one! 🙂

  • Create app "packages" for 'managed' cloudrons
    micmcM micmc

To add to the idea as well, with this we should also be able as superadmin to brand a part of the footer where the admin could not remove nor change the content of this part.

The best and easiest way to do this, imho, would be half and half, so, for example the owner can brand the left side with its product with a link or two to its customer service or anything else. While admin can customize the top of the page logo and name, as well as its part the right side of the footer.

Moreover, eventually there could even be more functions that could be added for the use of superadmin to get even more flexibility. A quick idea would be to be able to create "packages" of apps available at different prices that could also be great for different needs and target markets.

For example, for example two or three types of packages for business at three different prices.
    Like
    Business one package for $x/m

    • 50 users with as much IMAP, POP, SMTP accounts
    • WordPress 5 sites
    • Matomo 1 instance
    • Chatwoot 1 instance
    • Rainloop and SOGo

    Business package two for $xx/m

    • 200 users with as much IMAP, POP, SMTP accounts
    • 20 WordPress sites
    • Matomo 1 instance
    • Chatwoot 5 instances
    • RocketChat 1 instance
    • NextCloud 1 instance
    • Discourse 1 instance

ETC. see the point? I can be any mix-and-match you like depending on your market and even imagination of you want to reach new ones.

There could be a package for Families, for Teachers, for Coaches, for Communities, for Remote Working Teams etc. etc. you name it.

That can be limited only by imagination as there's possibilities to no end.

Anyone else can see how great can that be? 🙂

  • Submit Cloudron to Ubuntu for Publication
    micmcM micmc

@LoudLemur Personally I, and a lot of Ubuntu users, hate SNAPS and many Ubuntu desktop users are getting away from Ubuntu for that very reasons, because snaps apps are distributed as binaries each one running in snaps containers which allows very few possibilities to very the source code, In essence it's becoming kind of Ubundows, or Winuntu if you prefer, as snaps tend to be the EXE files of Linux users that you install on your desktop or even server OS.

I quit using Ubuntu desktop since the use of snap which also tends to load the machine and requires much more resources than before, just like the .... windoze. For now I use Linux Mint which have NOT included snaps in its OS and thus have gain an army of new users simply quitting Ubuntu.
"the decision to change the Software Center to install snap-based applications is controversial."

Moreover, for any interested in Unix Desktop I'm lurking at moving to Fedora Workstation which apparently would be the best desktop OS one can find today.

Anyway, those who move to Linux or other Unix-based desktop OS are doing to NEVER come back to either Winthedoze or Crackmymac for sure. 😊

All that said, I personally would not necessarily be happy to see Cloudron as a snap on Ubuntu, this is only mho, as it might not make it a good name among the FOSS community. But, hey, who am I to decide. 🕶

That is an amazing fully FOSS web app set of professional tools (used by agencies and SaaS in the like) to manage all technical SEO (more important than ever, this is not meta tags generator) aspects of any and ALL your website.

And you can even perform SEO services for your clients' website doing it yourself as a service or creating accounts for clients so they can use the tools to perform SEO for themselves (and of course even their own clients).

Many services online are charging high monthly dollars per clients for such tools and services. Now, it can be free for CR users as another powerful to to offer online businesses and even agencies that will put Clourdon offer on another higher level.

To me, this is a MUST add to CR, unless there's something that would prevent that which I cannot see now.

I've installed and run a copy on a CR on a LAMP stack and this is pretty much stable, works pretty well and is in constant development as well.

And then Cloudron would be covering the SEO tools domain as well. Unbeatable!

I was actually trying the use of the French version on one instance and I can confirm that until now the French translation is very good, I mean, excellent.

Then I was thinking about all the DOCS which isn't done yet, so I wanted to offer my contribution to help translate the DOCS in French language as well, because this is a market I will also target. This part is much more elaborated, but as anything else it will be done one day at the time.

You can use OpenAI API by putting your API key, but it can also be use, and this is what they even recommend, with a LocalAI instance running on the same server as NextCloud.

I guess we should start looking if a local instance of LocalAI could be run smoothly on a LAMP instance on Cloudron, and even be added as an app to Cloudron since it is built to run on Docker already?

No, but it looks to be an amazing piece of real CMS when you look deeper into it.

Built in python with Django framework, it's created for developer AND designer AND publisher. Seems to have the greatest flexibility one can have with some great features I haven't seen anywhere else on the CMS side.

It also has an impressive array of packages available, which can be used to produce great websites limited only by your imagination. For example, you can embed PeerTube, create e-commerce, proceed with SEO and marketing, and even start a newsletter, and much more.

If you're looking to add a serious additional CMS on top of what's already on CR that sounds like a winner. 🙂

  • Notion-like FOSS app
    micmcM micmc

Reading all discussions here about Notion, which the OP is more than 3 years old, and as usual sometimes we tend to forget that time goes fast, but technology development goes even faster!

One thing must be understood about Notion is that, from the OP time there really was absolutely nothing like it and not even to compare to. Period. The only way to know that, is by having a somewhat deep dive into it as a trial. For at least a couple of hours, with a free account and start exploring Notion Templates. You'll be on your ...

Now, the 'mistake' we all often do is "judging a book by its cover", and so we often tend also to judge of the capacity of an app by the screenshots we're presented with. I do that too, and my first impression of Notion was not 'impressive' 🙂

Until you put your hands on it, once. What's unique (verily) about Notion is HOW things are implemented for you to do things. Without needing to connect several apps together in the first place, to achieve (at first glance) what could be achieved with all the apps in Cloudron as it has been suggested.

So, the reality is that, what was under the cover here that cannot be compared, is not WHAT you can achieve by using either Cloudron Apps or Notion. The reality that cannot be compared is HOW the workflow will be proceeded to achieve your goal, using one or another.

Of course, that never excludes that both can be used to achieve one's objectives. And, as usual and with the wave around here, a real FOSS ALTERNATIVE TO NOTION is what would be interesting to add to the Cloudron apps stack. Nothing less.

It seems like we're getting very close to it, for Notion lovers. And as close as can be, that would be AppFlowy right now. It's been mentioned here (and forgotten), but that was a couple of years ago.

As explained here on their blog, AppFlowy can now be self-hosted on Supabase (an open source alternative to Firebase) and anyone is free to try it out with a free Supabase account. NOW, what's very exciting, is that Supabase can also be self-hosted using ... ... Docker!

IMHO, AnyType is also great. However, I think it's an app much apart. I'm not saying this as a negative way. In the contrary, IPFS is amazing only one must be conscious that IPFS is what's in the back end of this app, which makes it an app in its own class. Nevertheless, the app is absolutely GREAT. One must try it as well.
