@sixfold_distract said in Link subdomain on squarespace to Cloudron: questions: So, scenario 1 is just a simple, case-by-case subdomain like mail.example.com or forum.example.com. Can I even do this via Cloudron? yes, of course. Just choose the Manual DNS provider. You can just set up normal A/AAAA records for the apps. For the email server, if you go to the Status section, it will tell you what DNS records to set up.

@girish You're right, I think not. Currently the app is NOT in a 'Running' state if any failures occur. An alternate method would be to bring up the app anyway (as long as the primary subdomain is up, and continue to resolve the failed API calls until some 'threshold' (then alert) or it succeeds and all is well. No need to ignore the failed ones, they just try again async as with your API rate backoff code, or at the next addition of a new sub if you want to be less proactive and more lazy. (The non working subs, if used will draw attention back to the app anyway.)

Yeah, the access key is what is going to check if the domain is there. I think "Skip nameserver validation for custom Route53 NS names" would get me there And all of the DNS and Email stuff...I totally understand how difficult it is to give less technical users the ability to even USE this stuff, as well as support slightly more advanced users. You're doing a great job!

@pixeltablet as long as the DNS settings are copied over to cloudflare, everything will continue to work. You can also make Cloudron add the DNS entries into Cloudflare by first switching to cloudflare and then sync DNS - https://docs.cloudron.io/domains/#sync-dns . Just so you don't hit any DNS issues, you can add the 'my' subdomain record manually into Cloudflare.

@grimreaper said in cPanel DNS: Wow, what is his problem? I know it is unrelated but since @mhgcic brought it up is Lamp easier than cPanel to use? is there a GUI for it? Cloudron does all that cPanel does and more. There's no need for cPanel with Cloudron. Yes, with GUI when necessary. Basically, your cPanel account comes empty just as a LAMP installation is.

Not sure if relevant to your situation, but to bypass specific DNS entries you can also do: local-zone: example.com typetransparent local-data: "my.example.com A 172.18.0.1"

@scooke said in Why is netcups DNS so slow?: Wildcard I'm using the programmable DNS (CF and Bunny). Maybe that's why it's faster.

For namecheap, look at their docs - https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/434/2237/how-do-i-set-up-host-records-for-a-domain/

@Jan-Macenka The sync dns also syncs the mail related dns settings. There should also be an event in the eventlog indicating the dynamic dns updated your dns (or not). When things are going out of sync, can you check what it says in the event log?

@j_vmess your domain works just fine for me here. Maybe it's a browser cache issue? Have you tried another browser or after clearing the browser cache? I removed your domain from the original post, since it was showing the setup screen.

@AartJansen for new apps, AAAA is automatically added. For existing apps, go to Domains -> Sync DNS.

@DualOSWinWiz do you think "Encrypt DNS" in your router mean DNSSEC ? If that is the case, an idea is to just disable DNSSEC in unbound instead of for your domain . https://docs.cloudron.io/networking/#unbound .

I figured out my issue. Turns out that even though I read the documentation I made one critical mistake right at the beginning. I had to create my email accounts and the addresses I wanted to work in Cloudron first. Then Install the Snappy mail client and set up the email accounts there second. Once I deleted the Snappy mail client and reinstalled it everything worked. I'm not sure how but this topic can be marked as resolved.
