I don't understand why you guys are spending your resources to add another note-taking app. We already have Outline & Etherpad which are excellent so why add another one?

That is disappointing. Please add apps for businesses and bring diversity in new apps.

    A few suggestions:

    • CRMs
      Twenty: https://github.com/twentyhq/twenty
      ERPNext: https://github.com/frappe/erpnext

    • AI Agentic Platforms:
      Langflow (https://github.com/langflow-ai/langflow)
      Flowise (https://github.com/FlowiseAI/Flowise)

    • No-code Apps Builder:
      Budibase (https://github.com/Budibase/budibase)
      Appsmith (https://github.com/appsmithorg/appsmith)

Etc... And please don't tell me to vote for these apps. They've already been voted on and are on the wish list. You don't care much about the votes anyway.

I am a paid customer. I love Cloudron... but I do check weekly the forum to see new apps with the hope of seeing more business-oriented apps that could help me scale my business but instead, you are just adding apps that nobody cares about.

Had to share my disappointment... and I am sure I'm not alone.

@eddowding +1 for Fider. That would be a much better system for voting.

@timconsidine But the votes are just a quarter of the real problem. I don't recall who but someone from the Cloudron team clearly stated that in selecting the apps you were integrating, an important point for taking your decision was how easy it is to maintain.

The main issue that Cloudron is solving is making management for self-hosted apps easy... I just think you guys are rerouting from your main objective and it's disappointing.

With all the respect I have for the Cloudron team, I think you are not as good marketers as you are developers.

Inflation is at its highest... Businesses are trying to save on cost where they can and the open source industry is booming. You have THE SOLUTION to help millions of businesses to save money but you don't move a finger.

The AI industry is also booming, businesses are looking for affordable solutions to automate their processes and one of those solutions is n8n, which you have and it's great... But multiple modules are required to be self-hosted like a scraper (FireCrawl is the best right now) and there are plenty of amazing agentic platforms (Flowise is a popular one) around that can help businesses create Chatbots to automate their customer support.

I think you should definitely evaluate what the market wants, and create a strategy for the apps you are adding instead of adding some random apps from time to time. You need a STRATEGY.

I am a marketer and built many SaaS so my vision may be different than some users here but my point is valid and if you think about it, you will agree with me.

I am also a business owner and like any CEO, I want to save money on my infrastructure and Cloudron has been a game-changer for me. The only con is the amount of business-focused apps to help me scale my infrastructure at an affordable price.

Some ideas that you could implement to set up a strategy:

    1. Voting system (You do already but use a better platform and take it more seriously)
    2. Look at trending repos (monthly period) on GitHub and spot the projects that get a lot of attention. Those popular projects will bring you customers because so many people want to host them but don't have the knowledge to do it. To name a few:
    • Twenty CRM
    • Plane Task Management
    • Autogen (Their next version will be FIRE... Probably the best autonomous AI agent platform)
    1. Look on Reddit the self-hosted section to see what apps are popular
      etc...

I have looked for an alternative, and to be honest, none are as good as Cloudron and it's why I want you to push your solution to a higher level. The same boring answer comes again and again: "We have limited resources" but just hire more staff. More customers = more revenues.

You could even change your business models to include Cloudron for free for personal apps, and charge a higher price for business apps (like 25$/m). Then you tag your apps as personal or business usage.

I think you need to revise your business model. You have demands and if you fail to meet your user's requirements, then you will miss on a big opportunity to make more money.

@nebulon I think you missed the point. Your paid customers (the ones that make Cloudron viable) are mostly businesses.

Business apps should be your main focus, not personal apps.

You could grow Cloudron revenue a lot in adding more apps helpful for businesses.

More business apps = More paid customers.

    AI agents
    Nocode platforms
    CRM

All these apps requested so many times are the kind of apps that will bring you more paid customers but you prefer not adding them because it's "too much work". I don't understand your philosophy...

If you make more money, you can hire and growth.

That's the point. You ignore feedback from your paid customers... You implement a wish system that you ignore. Not sure what's your goals with Cloudron ecosystem but you have a big potential and you don't take it.

I love Cloudron, this is just a criticism feedback to help you understand your customers needs. Hope it will be considered.

@scooke Just chill man. @eddowding is not alone in thinking that way.

Nobody has said that Cloudron would fail.

We are just business owners that have hope that Cloudron become bigger and add more business-oriented apps. We want their success and we are here to encourage them to pursuit that path.

If they speak out loud and simply tell us they are not interested to grow that much, fine. We'll respect their decisions.

But if they are, they have a big community behind them that is ready to continue submitting feedback and even agreed to pay an extra (if required) on their subscriptions to allow the Cloudron team to expand and add more business apps.

I have no idea why some people here try to defend Cloudron due to that post?! This is everything but negative.

I initially created this post to show my interest in having more business apps and many others agreed with me. This simply means that the interests are shared among multiple users and that my feedback should be considered seriously.

To those who are not interested, why are you losing your time posting here? I'm just not getting the point. Cloudron has many different audiences from businesses to personal. If you are not targeted by this, just move on.

    I igaudette

@marcusquinn Yes I understand... but AppSmith have everything that Cloudron requires so why 3 years later this is still not integrated?

AppSmith or Budibase are an excellent complementary of N8N... They added the backend but they haven't added any Frontend/UI builder to complement with N8N. This doesn't make much sense to me.

@eddowding Yes I would pay an extra to have more apps. I understand some apps requires more work so why not adding a "premium apps" add-on. I would definitely pay the extra. I have no problem paying their times... Cloudron is amazing and I don't want to use anything else, but now I'm at a stage where I'm blocked because some important apps are not available on Cloudron.

Yeah, that would be a good thing! I built my first custom app inside Cloudron and this has been a real puzzle... My dev has over 20 years of experience and due to the lack of documentation and no clear explanations, we needed to contact the support a few times. The support has been really helpful... Glad they were there otherwise we would still be probably stuck today.

A good example is n8n... What they are doing on Youtube is just amazing! Have a look at their Youtube channel, they have plenty of videos where they educate users and this has a lot of success.

I think Cloudron should do something like this... and even create a "community apps marketplace" where people can share their custom apps.

    That would be greatly welcomed.

Please add agentic platforms. A few name:

    Crew AI

They have all a version with UI, and docker. It would be amazing to have this inside Cloudron!

  • Cloudron is amazing but...
    I igaudette

I subscribed to Cloudron about 2 months ago and loved its simplicity. So to start, I want to say how much I love the product.

However, let's be honest... You are lagging in terms of adding new apps. The amount of apps in the marketplace isn't great compared to other solutions. Or maybe I should say it differently... We are in 2024 and there are a lot of apps that are exploding in popularity and it seems Cloudron doesn't bother to add them. To name a few:

AppSmith, Budibase, ERPNext, AppFlowy, Supabase, Plane, and popular agentic platforms such as Autogen, Langflow, etc....

All these apps could play a big role in any business and despite having all the requirements to be added to Cloudron, they are still not there despite the amount of votes.

So being forced to install some of these apps to boost the productivity of my company, I decided to set up a new VPS and install some of the other Cloudron alternatives like Dokploy, CapRover, and Coolify.

These solutions are not beginner-friendly at all... How to update the apps installed? How to back up them? Brief... They are far behind Cloudron in terms of ease of use and features.

So this post is not meant to say bad things about Cloudron because it's an amazing product... but I would highly appreciate it if Cloudron could stop being so restrictive on the apps they add and try to be more "open-minded".

I have seen on another thread a staff confirming adding new apps were not in their priorities and that they were focusing on maintaining current apps. Damn... it's so bad because there are so many good apps in the open-source community and there is no way to install them easily.

That would be great too to see what others think about my post, maybe if we are more people sharing the same thoughts, Cloudron may be more receptive.

    Finger crossed 🤞

  • Easiest way to migrate NocoDB (PostgreSQL) from Pikapods to Cloudron?
    I igaudette

    Hi,

Currently, I have a NocoDB instance hosted on Pikapods and I would like to migrate it to my Cloudron server.

Pikapods use PostgreSQL for NocoDB, which is the same DB as Cloudron. Based on their documentation, it is possible to have access to the database using this guide.

Does anyone already moved its NocoDB instance to Cloudron, and could share his process, or any guide/tutorial he followed? That would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I have a few automations already set up in Zapier using NocoDB webhooks, if I keep the same domain and same DB, will my automation still work after migrating?

I am not an expert and don't know much about PostgreSQL but the way I think I can do it (I may be totally wrong though) is that I can dump the SQL data from Pikapod in a single file (E.g. nocodb.sql), then rename it the same as Cloudron SQL (Let's say that after creating my instance of NocoDB in Cloudron, the SQL file that has been created is named "cloudron-nocodb.sql", then I can simply rename nocodb.sql to cloudron-nocodb.sql and replace it with the one on the server via ssh or file manager??), and then just update the PostgreSQL user and password in the ENV setting inside Cloudron.

Does my plan make sense? Thanks

    I igaudette

Okay so for those with the same problem.. it's possible to fix on 1.74.3 (Current version of Cloudron) by following these steps:

    1. Set N8N_PROXY_HOPS to 1 in your ENV, then restart your n8n instance.
    2. DELETED the credential and recreate it (Modifying it don't work, you need to delete and recreate!)
    3. Update your workflow

    And it will works.

  • Installation Stuck on Waiting for DNS propagation (Attention to Ad Blocker!!)
    I igaudette

    Hi,

It's been two Cloudron instances I'm installing that I forget to disable my extension AdBlock and everytime I forget, the installation is stuck at the step of DNS propagation.

Only fix I've found is to reinstall the server and start the process again, that time, with AdBlock disabled and it works flawless.

I think Cloudron team you should mention this in the documentation, because a lot of people are using AdBlock in their browsers, so this could save the hassle for some 🙂

    Cheers

@timconsidine said in Focus on Business Apps:

p should be the focus of packaging effort ?

    Hi Tim,

I think we (Cloudron users) may have many different business types, so our needs may be different. You already have some good foundation apps and it's a great start!

An application that I think everyone will agree with me, that is part of any online business nowadays is a CRM. I think the most promising CRM right now are Twenty and ERPNext. I know you have already Dolibarr and Espo CRM but those are a bit outdated and lack modern features. For me, the most promising is Twenty CRM but I know ERPNext is a big favorite in the self-hosted community.

But IMHO where Cloudron is lacking the most right now is in innovative solutions that can have a BIG IMPACT on businesses. I'm making reference to AI-related platforms. AI is currently changing the world and as a business owner, we can't ignore it... We need to start integrating it into our processes ASAP. A few platforms are Langflow, Flowise, Autogen & Crew AI.

And to conclude, more no-code/low-code platforms such as Budibase or Appsmith.

Agentic, No-code/Low-code, and more CRMs. Those are the kind of apps that can truly helps a business to scale and that would be amazing to see Cloudron supporting these apps soon.

To conclude, I would like also to mention Plane as a new innovative self-hosted project management tool that has a lot of potential. For a business, project management tools are expensive and the options offered right now are a bit outdated.

This goes to MY OPINION. Some will agree with my priorities, some may have different ones. I think this is why this is very important to have a better voting system so we can figure out the real interests as the current way to vote is not convenient and hard to keep track of it.

Btw, thanks for taking the time to read our feedback... This thread wasn't meant to talk bad about Cloudron. We love Cloudron and support you 100% guys. I would just like to see Cloudron supporting more business users. As a business, it's hard to scale as subscriptions continue to go up (Currently paying ~2k/m in subscriptions) and I'm at a point in my business where I need to find a way to minimize my costs, and this is why I fall in love with Cloudron and don't bother paying more for a subscription if it can help me save hundreds of dollars in subscriptions monthly.

That's the one. It does hang the process... Probably because it block some JavaScript code, dunno. But once I whitelist the Cloudron server and restart the process it does work.

Anyway even if you don't add it to the doc, let's keep this forum post open as I'm sure it will be helpful for some.

Ps: I never said it was Cloudron fault 😉

@micmc Yeah, I am already using n8n and have tons of stuff automated with it and I love it! You're right it's very powerful and can do mostly all I recommended. I mentioned a few big names upvoted a lot in the forum. Personally for my business, the two things I want the most are Twenty CRM and Plane.

I tried Directus but it's not like budibase or appsmith.. It's more a database management tool with an interface. You can't build apps. A good use case for Budibase or Appsmith was to create a frontend for n8n and start workflows via webhooks.

In n8n self-hosted edition, you can't share your workflows with other users so that's how a frontend UI is handy and why I believe Budibase would be very helpful.

And yeah I agree with you about the potential for Cloudron to revolutionize the self-hosting industry... The technology is so amazing... I just have doubts about their motivation to scale it. I feel they are good in their current state and don't want to become a bigger company. Cloudron has definitely the potential to become a 9-figure company.

They never produced any form of content marketing... Look at Semrush or Ahrefs, NADA. They also have zero paid ads running.

This means they built their user base ONLY on word of mouth (Which is amazing btw! This proves how good the product is). Imagine if they would start investing in marketing... This would FLY! They should hire a marketer to help them... there are so much potential.

    I igaudette

    Hi,

One of my n8n workflows gets a WebSocket connection error after 10-14 minutes.

Here is the error I'm seeing in my Chrome Console:

pushConnection.store-BrFt2YWH.js:54 WebSocket connection to 'wss://n8n.*************.com/rest/push?pushRef=abufwmz0xm' failed:
    pushConnect @ pushConnection.store-BrFt2YWH.js:54

    Here is what I tried:

    1. Disable Cloudflare proxy
    2. Add these variables to my .env file:
      export EXECUTIONS_TIMEOUT=3600
      export EXECUTIONS_TIMEOUT_MAX=7200
      export N8N_PUSH_BACKEND=websocket
    3. Rebooting the server/app

I am running n8n on a Cloudron instance. See details:
App Title and Version: n8n 1.71.3
    Package Version: io.n8n.cloudronapp@3.60.1
    Installed At: 09/10/2024
    Last Updated: 12/13/2024

Some additional information: My workflow sends multiple GET requests using the HTTP Request node to a website, I have successfully sent over 10k requests in another workflow without issue so I don't think the problem is here.

The workflow sends requests to 3 different websites, and the first 1k requests (first website) work fine, I noticed that the second website is slower as the requests take more time to be received. I think this is why the workflow fails and the WebSocket disconnects... Some sites return the data in just 1s while this site seems to take a few seconds to return, I haven't counted but probably 4-5s per request.. Could it cause the web socket to disconnect?

Anyway, I am sure there is a specific setting to adjust to allow more times for HTTP requests. Thanks for your help.
